Our Governors

Happy, safe and respected children thrive in life! With that in mind we aim to create a diverse and fully inclusive school which offers pupils an excellent education. As governors our priority is to help St Mary’s embrace Hampton’s unique heritage and beauty and install a sense of community spirit and pride in its pupils.

Should you wish to contact a member of the Governing Board, please email Clare Struthers (Clerk to the Governors) at clerk@stmaryshamptonschool.org.uk

Hilary Hart

Member of Full Governing Board

Resources, Teaching and Learning Committees.

Nominated by St Mary’s Church, Hampton and Appointed by the Board: 2020-2024.

I have lived in and around Hampton all my life so know the area very well. I am married with three adult children all of whom were educated in state schools in Hampton. During that time I was a Parent Governor at both Hampton Junior School and what is now Hampton High. Before I retired I taught Chemistry in a variety of different secondary schools so I have a keen interest in education. My firm belief is that where possible children should be educated in their local school, so was delighted when St Mary’s Primary School was opened as a local, community school.

I have two children attending St Mary’s Hampton school. I value being a part of the caring community built by the staff and families attending. It’s a pleasure to have joined the team of dedicated and knowledgeable governors. I aim to work collaboratively to help achieve best outcomes for all children across the school.

Professionally, I support the inclusion of children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) across education, social and leisure opportunities. I’m passionate about fostering meaningful inclusion and advocating for families.

David Western

Member of Full Governing Board and Resources Committee

Nominated by St Mary’s Hampton Church PCC and appointed by the board 2021-25

I have lived in Hampton for many years with my wife, Joanna, a teacher in and around the local area. Our two children are pupils of St. Mary’s school. I attend St. Mary’s Church, Hampton and am a member of the church council there.

I was really pleased to have been asked to be a school governor at St. Mary’s. I have a real invested interest in the long-term success of the school and the pupils who attend now and who will attend in the future.

I work for a well know Duty Free Retailer that operates across 63 countries, in a Senior Global Planning Role and look forward to working with the school to further build on their success.

Nick Woods

Member of Full Governing Board and Teaching and Learning Committee.

Appointed by London Diocesan Board for Schools: 2020-2024.

Nick lives in Woking with his wife and baby daughter. Having graduated from Downing College, Cambridge in 2007 with a Master’s degree in Engineering, Nick took up post at Hampton School as a Physics teacher where he obtained his Qualified Teacher Status. Nick has remained at Hampton since then where he has continued to teach Physics and held senior pastoral positions including that of Head Third Year (Year 9) for five years.

In 2017, Nick joined the School’s leadership team as Assistant Head, with specific responsibilities for communications, admissions and marketing. Nick’s sporting passion is rowing, which he started in 1996 at Walton Rowing Club and continued at Downing College; no longer an active rower himself, Nick has coached across all squads at Hampton.

In his spare time, Nick loves to keep busy and he enjoys travelling in Italy (his wife is half Italian), cooking and pottering around in the garden!

Jennifer Yiend

Member of Full Governing Board and Personnel & Pastoral Committee

Elected by parents 2023-27.

I have two children attending St Mary’s Hampton school and have lived in Hampton for over 15 years. I am delighted to have the opportunity to be a parent governor. I have professional expertise in higher education and educational governance in my role as a Professor at the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience at King’s College London. As an academic psychologist I am also passionate about mental health and well-being for both children and parents. I value highly the vision and values that underpin St Mary’s. My aim is to work alongside the rest of the governing body, bringing my own experience as well as learning from the experience of others, to embed and promote these values and to ensure that every child in the school can thrive.
