Our collective worship aims to keep our Christian vision and ethos at the centre of all we do. In our collective worship, we aim to be “inclusive, invitational and inspiring”, having regard to the Church of England Guidance to Schools on Collective Worship. We have a half-termly “iShare Learning themes” which lead our planning and delivery of our collective worship.
Through collective worship we gives pupils and school staff the opportunity to:
- Engage in an act of community.
- Express praise and thanksgiving to God. Be still and reflect.
- Explore the big questions of life and respond to national events.
- Foster respect and deepen spiritual awareness.
- Reflect on the character of God and on the teachings of Christ.
- Affirm Christian values and attitudes.
- Share each other’s joys and challenges.
- Celebrate special times in the Christian calendar.
Collective worship timetable:

Worship Prefects
At the start of each new school year, children in Year 6 are encouraged to apply for the role of Worship Prefect. Those interested in becoming a Worship Prefect are asked to prepare a short speech for their class, explaining why they would make an excellent ambassador for faith.
Role of Worship Prefects at St Mary’s Hampton
Worship Prefects play an important role in fostering the spiritual life of our school. Their responsibilities include:
Supporting Collective Worship:
- Preparing and tidying up the Worship Table.
- Occasionally assisting the Worship Leader with technology, including managing the laptop, projector, and screen. This includes playing entrance and exit music, as well as displaying slides and video clips.
Caring for Prayer Spaces:
- Ensuring classroom prayer spaces are well-maintained.
- Monitoring the prayer boxes located in classrooms, the hall, and corridors.
Planning and Leading Worship:
- Helping to plan, lead, and participate in Class, Key Stage, and Whole School Collective Worship (Years 3-6 only).
Maintaining the School’s Prayer Trees:
- Looking after the prayer trees and regularly updating the prayers displayed throughout the year.
Writing and Delivering Prayers:
- Composing and reading prayers and reflections during Church services.
Worship Prefects serve as role models, guiding others in their spiritual growth and helping to create a peaceful, prayerful environment for all. This role offers a wonderful opportunity to develop leadership skills while deepening one’s faith.
