Infants – Reception, Year 1 & Year 2

Guidance on appearance

Children may not wear jewellery except small plain studs (no hoops) if they have pierced ears. Earrings must either be removed or taped over during all P.E. and other sporting activities including swimming. Teachers are not permitted to remove earrings.

No make-up of any kind, including nail varnish, is permitted – nail varnish remover may be used to remove varnish worn in school. False nails are not permitted.

Hair that is shoulder length or longer should be tied up. Hair ties, clips and bands must be plain (navy blue, white or neutral) and not fashion items. Extreme hairstyles are not appropriate for school. The use of styling products should be kept to a minimum, and children should not have decorative patterns cut into their hair or have hair coloured or dyed. Braids or extensions should be natural hair coloured.

PE Kit (Whole School)

Compulsory Branded Items:

  • St Mary’s Hampton School PE T-shirt
  • Navy blue round neck sweatshirt

Additional Items:

  • Navy blue shorts
  • Navy blue jogging bottoms or leggings
  • Trainers (black or white; Velcro if needed)
  • Plain white socks (no trainer socks)

Please note:
From September 2027, the school will move to a plain navy jumper for PE and branded hoodies will be discontinued. Current hoodies may still be worn throughout the 2026–2027 academic year.

Summer Term Uniform

Summer Uniform (Summer Term & Autumn Term until October half term)

  • St Mary’s Hampton School cardigan or V-neck sweatshirt
  • St Mary’s Hampton School polo shirt (optional) or white polo shirt
  • St Mary’s Hampton School book bag

Additional Unbranded Items:

  • Light blue/white checked summer dress or playsuit (optional)
  • Grey socks (no trainer socks) or white long socks (with summer dress/playsuit)
  • Grey tailored shorts
  • Black flat shoes with closed toe (same requirements as winter)
  • Wellington boots for outdoor learning
